Although women under the age of 21 represent a small portion of all plastic surgery recipients, there are still valid reasons for them to seek out breast augmentation, or a “boob job.” The American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) reported that In 2017, breast augmentation was the most popular cosmetic surgery for women belonging to this age group. The way a woman feels about the appearance of her breasts can have a significant impact on the way she feels about herself, and women can be sensitive to these emotions even at a young age. Whether her breasts are asymmetrical, underdeveloped, or simply a source of dissatisfaction for a young woman, IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants can help meet her individual needs.

If you are under the age of 21 and have searched online for “boob job” or related information, you may have learned about the different types of breast implants available. Many women are drawn to the idea of getting silicone gel implants because people often think they look and feel better than saline implants. However, the FDA has not approved the use of silicone gel breast implants for breast augmentation in women under the age of 22. Younger women who wish to enhance their cup size can choose between a saline implant or a structured implant because silicone gel is not an FDA-approved option for them.

IDEAL IMPLANT ® Structured Breast Implants: The Perfect Choice for Young Women

The IDEAL IMPLANT is the latest technology to be introduced to the breast implant market. It is the only type of implant with an internal structure that gives it a natural, beautiful look and feel. It is filled with saline, which is simply sterile salt water, and It is FDA-approved for women as young as 18.

Breast augmentation patients of a young age should know their implants will probably not last a lifetime. Silicone gel implants can break “silently,” or without any symptoms at all. The FDA recommends that women with silicone gel implants get an MRI every few years to detect possible leakage. If an IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, you will be able to tell by simply looking in the mirror and the saline inside will be safely absorbed into your body. You will never have to worry about silent rupture or costly routine MRIs with the IDEAL IMPLANT. Unless a problem arises, there is no need to trade in your implants for new ones every ten years.

Saline implants have a reputation for causing unsightly ripples and wrinkles, especially on the sides of the breasts. Without any structure, these implants act much like a water balloon. The IDEAL IMPLANT’s design has solved these problems. Its inner chambers and shells provide the implant with a shape and feel that resembles a natural breast.

Key Considerations for Younger Breast Augmentation Patients

  • It is best to be sure your breasts have finished developing before you have breast enhancement surgery.
  • Think about your reasons for wanting the procedure. Don’t do it just because your boyfriend says he wants you to get a “boob job.”
  • Plan for the financial responsibilities you will incur as a result of the surgery.
  • Consider the results you want. Are they realistic? Ask your doctor how they might change over the next 10-15 years.

Dr. Creech’s Thoughts on the Advantages of the IDEAL IMPLANT

“Early in my use of IDEAL IMPLANT, in 2016, the majority of my breast augmentation patients were women who were seeking specifically the IDEAL IMPLANT. Since then, I still have patients coming in saying, “I want IDEAL IMPLANT,” and then others who come in and want silicone gel implants. Once I go through the advantages and disadvantages between the silicone gel implants and the IDEAL IMPLANT, a lot of them are converting over to IDEAL IMPLANT.

The IDEAL IMPLANT has dramatically less wrinkling than saline implants. If you look at the side of the breast and see a lot of wrinkling, that was dramatically reduced with silicone gel implants, which was a big advantage. Now, when I look at patients with IDEAL IMPLANT, there’s very low wrinkling, similar to silicone gel, whereas with saline implants there’s a lot of wrinkling.

The bottom line with choosing an implant is determining the advantages and disadvantages of each. The downside I emphasize with silicone gel implants is their risk of silent rupture. The upside with IDEAL IMPLANT is there’s no silent rupture. If it leaks, the surgery to replace an IDEAL IMPLANT is more predictable versus if a silicone gel implant leaks. To me that’s a big advantage from a surgical standpoint, from my standpoint, to have a good result.”
