Last year, despite a worldwide pandemic, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that just over 193,000 breast augmentations were performed. Many women elect to have breast augmentation because it can restore lost volume after breastfeeding and pregnancy, or they just want to enhance what they already have. Before choosing to have this procedure, you may be asking questions like, “how long does breast augmentation last?” While breast implants may not be “lifetime devices”, the good news is that they last a lot longer than they used to. “. . . In many cases, breast implants can remain in good shape for 20 years or more.”
Women can take advantage of the latest breast implant technology when they choose the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. The IDEAL IMPLANT significantly outperforms silicone gel for primary augmentation over ten years with both a lower risk of rupture and capsular contracture. Technology has advanced, make sure your surgeon has, too!
Voted “The State’s Best Plastic Surgeon 6 Years in a Row”, Dr. Donen Davis in Columbia, South Carolina was recently recognized as an Ideal Implant Preferred Surgeon due to his extensive expertise working with this new implant technology. He’s excited to be among a select group of board-certified plastic surgeons to offer the IDEAL IMPLANT® to his patients.
How Long Does Breast Augmentation Last with IDEAL IMPLANT?
The IDEAL IMPLANT is a structured implant, uniquely designed to give women the look and upper pole fullness they want. A series of nested shells surrounds the saline filling of the implant, keeping it from sloshing around and making the implant behave similarly to a silicone gel implant.
Only 3.7% percent of patients experienced a rupture over ten years with the IDEAL IMPLANT. With silicone gel implants, 8.7% to 24.2% of patients experienced a rupture and had to have their implant replaced.
You’ll also never need to worry about a “silent rupture” when you pick the IDEAL IMPLANT. A quick glance in the mirror will tell you that your implants are intact. The FDA recommends that patients who choose silicone gel-filled implants obtain an MRI or ultrasound scan at five to six years after augmentation, and every two to three years after that in order to detect any silent ruptures. This is an out-of-pocket cost, so many women don’t schedule these imaging appointments as routinely as they should.
About Capsular Contracture
Sometimes breast implants don’t last as long as they were designed to due to another issue called capsular contracture. This is where the “capsule” of scar tissue formed around the breast implant becomes unusually hard and starts to contract around the implant. This can cause the breast to look swollen and distorted and also cause pain in some cases. Only 6.6% of women with the IDEAL IMPLANT experienced capsular contracture over ten years, compared to women with silicone gel implants who dealt with it far more often at rates of 12.1-18.9%.
After going through breast augmentation surgery and several weeks of recovery, the last thing you want is a breast implant that’s going to cause you expensive problems down the road. Statistics prove that you can feel confident in your choice when you pick the IDEAL IMPLANT.
