A breast lift, or a mastopexy, is needed when a woman’s nipples are no longer straight, but drooping towards the ground. This usually happens in women who have had children and breastfed, experiencing changes in size and volume of their breasts. Some people have thin, elastic skin and, over time, will experience more droopiness in their breasts than others. In a mastopexy, the nipple-areolar complex is always repositioned or lifted, and skin is then removed to tighten the breast skin envelope.This procedure takes 90 minutes to two hours and is done under general anesthetic in the office operating suite or a surgicenter.
