Paris, France, welcomed cosmetic surgery innovator, Robert S Hamas, MD, who is known for creating the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant and founding Ideal Implant Incorporated. He was an invited guest at an international conference, IMCAS Innovation Shark Tank 2020, where he presented the latest in breast implant technology, the IDEAL IMPLANT. This conference invited several new businesses and new products in the fields of plastic surgery, dermatology, and aesthetic science. A jury and an audience of high profile industry leaders, venture-capitals, and KOL physicians looked for innovations that promise to revolutionize medical practices in their respective fields. They were not disappointed with Dr. Hamas’ presentation of the IDEAL IMPLANT.
How the IDEAL IMPLANT Changed Cosmetic Surgery
The IDEAL IMPLANT was a strong candidate in the cosmetic surgery industry because of its unique design. A structured implant with layers of shells on the outside and saline filling on the inside was combined to create a smooth, natural-looking implant that feels like a natural breast while giving women the peace of mind of only saline inside. Though it has the lowest risk of rupture rate on the breast implant market, based on 8yr clinical trial data for primary augmentation, if the IDEAL IMPLANT were to break, only saline would be released which would be harmlessly absorbed by the body.
“After only five years on the consumer market, the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant is proving to be a disruptive technology, with strong clinical data that better addresses women’s concerns,” Dr. Hamas explained to attendees. “It’s patented, unique internal structure offers women the natural feel and look of silicone gel implants, yet a woman can look in the mirror and know her implants are intact, while having the peace of mind of only saline inside. The design has captured the benefits of other types of implants without their drawbacks.”
The cosmetic surgery world has been revolutionized by the invention of the IDEAL IMPLANT and all that it promises. Performing better than other implants in nearly every aspect, this implant has exceeded the expectations of plastic surgeons and breast implant patients across the nation. Not only does it look and feel natural, but the science behind it gives women peace of mind which is becoming an increasingly more important factor when selecting an implant. A recent eight-year clinical trial reported significantly lower rates of complications for primary augmentation such as “rupture and capsular contracture over silicone gel implants while allowing for instant rupture detection without the MRIs required with silicone gel implants.”
The Science Behind the IDEAL IMPLANT
Recent cosmetic surgery survey findings showed that over 98% of women reported feeling concerned about the potential of silent rupture with silicone gel breast implants, which is best determined through an MRI. MRIs are often an out-of-pocket expense and the FDA recommends women with silicone gel implants get an MRI three years after surgery and every two years after that to detect potential rupture. They also recommend that the implant be removed if ruptured. Silicone gel implants have a higher risk of implant rupture, ranging from 3.4-7.4% at 6-7 years for primary augmentation, compared to only 1.8% risk with IDEAL IMPLANT. Silicone gel implants may also require complex revision surgery and more lifetime surgeries than other implant types. All of these factors may be driving the cosmetic surgery trend toward the latest in implant technology. The IDEAL IMPLANT means fewer out of pocket expenses for patients and fewer complicated implant removal procedures for surgeons.
Because they see how well this implant can benefit them, women are pressuring their local cosmetic surgery providers to offer the IDEAL IMPLANT and as a result, Dr. Hamas’ company is investing in larger facilities that can produce more of the product and satisfy the demand for the IDEAL IMPLANT that has been happening since its FDA approval in 2014. Board-certified plastic surgeons that offer the IDEAL IMPLANT are excited that this implant not only makes patients happy but it is also easy to insert and requires a smaller incision than other types of implants.
Why Surgeons Love the IDEAL IMPLANT
Because the IDEAL IMPLANT is filled after insertion, it requires a smaller skin incision and the volume can be adjusted after insertion. This makes it easy for the surgeon to ensure that the implants are symmetrical and proportionate to the patient’s body. Smaller skin scar, a straightforward procedure, low risks of complications, and satisfied patients all combine to make IDEAL IMPLANT any plastic surgeon’s dream cosmetic surgery product. To recognize surgeons who have been offering the latest in implant technology for years and gained invaluable experience and expertise with the product, Ideal Implant Incorporated has a special honor.
This honor is being labeled an IDEAL IMPLANT Premier Surgeon. These are surgeons who offer the IDEAL IMPLANT at their practice and “have shown a commitment to helping women compare all the performance data between the breast implants in an unbiased way while ensuring they offer all the available options,” explained Dr. Robert S. Hamas. “Technology is advancing in every area of our lives, and, as a result, women no longer have to compromise the beautiful look and feel they want for the peace of mind of knowing what is happening inside their body.”
The Paris Conference was impressed with the IDEAL IMPLANT and how it has helped the cosmetic surgery world immensely. “We received many outstanding applications and had the very difficult mission of selecting the 15 start-ups that would pitch their innovations live to the jury and audience of high profile venture-capitals, industry leaders and KOL physicians,” explained an IMCAS spokesperson. “Among the submissions, Ideal Implant was clearly a very interesting innovation with the potential to disrupt its industry, and we were glad to have them take part in this Innovation Shark Tank.”
About IDEAL IMPLANT
Ideal Implant Incorporated, a privately held company, was founded in 2006 by Robert S. Hamas, MD, the board-certified plastic surgeon who invented the IDEAL IMPLANT after years of dealing with cosmetic surgery frustrations like ruptured silicone gel implants. Dr. Hamas realized that women wanted a new type of breast implant—one that would combine the natural feel of a silicone gel implant with only saline inside for peace of mind.
Almost ten years were spent developing and refining the IDEAL IMPLANT, conducting the US clinical trial with 502 women, and submitting volumes of safety, manufacturing and clinical data to FDA and Health Canada for approval. The Company has been fortunate to have the help of a dedicated team of scientists, engineers, and consultants. In addition, many plastic surgeons contributed clinical expertise to this project, because they recognized that the IDEAL IMPLANT would better address patient concerns.
The unique design of the IDEAL IMPLANT brings a natural feel and youthful look to cosmetic surgery patients—without using silicone gel. Though made with standard implant materials, the IDEAL IMPLANT uses an advanced internal structure to control the movement of saline and support the implant edges to reduce collapse and wrinkling. Over the years, many plastic surgeons chose to become stockholders in the Company because they believed in the IDEAL IMPLANT and the difference it could make for patients. Because of this, the Company has a strong focus on patient care and safety, with particular emphasis on attention to detail and quality control in the manufacturing of the IDEAL IMPLANT. In the US, the IDEAL IMPLANT is only available through a network of board-certified or board-eligible plastic surgeons. The implant is also approved for use in Canada. In the future, manufacturing capacity will expand to allow for the international availability of the implant. For more information, visit idealimplant.com.
