Find the Best Plastic Surgeon Near Me: Why You Need to Ask Questions

When you are faced with choices about your health and wellness, what do you do? Do you ask for the help of friends and family? Do you scour the internet for the latest medical research? Do you ask experts for their opinions? Too often we make choices based on what is the most popular, thinking “if it is good enough for everyone else, it is good enough for me.” This method is okay for choices like what facemask to use, or even to what gym you should become a member. However, when you’re searching for the best plastic surgeon near me or the best breast implants, you need to do your research. For women planning breast augmentations, there is a new option available that provides a natural look without the constant monitoring or high rate of complications of silicone gel. Learn what recent research reveals about the latest breast implant technology, IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant.

Looking at Research to Find the Best Breast Implants

If you are researching breast implants, you probably know women love silicone gel breast implants because they look and feel like natural breasts. However, silicone gel breast implants have rupture rates of 7.2% – 13.6% at eight years in primary augmentation according to FDA CORE clinical trial data. The IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant has a rupture rate of only 2.1% at eight years according to its clinical trial data

Another known complication of breast implants is capsular contracture. Capsular contracture is a complication in which scar tissue forms around the implant causing constriction, pain, and even implant displacement. Unfortunately, researchers have not pinpointed the exact cause of capsular contracture, and even the best plastic surgery near me may result in this complication. However, some breast implants are more prone to this complication. In silicone gel breast implants, capsular contracture rates are as high as 16.2% at seven years in primary augmentation. IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants have a capsular contracture rate of only 6.6% at eight years.

Why is this data important? According to the FDA ruptured breast implants should be removed, whether or not they are showing adverse symptoms. In addition, the typical treatment for Baker class III/IV capsular contracture is surgery to remove the scar capsule and replace the implant. Choosing a breast implant with lower rates of rupture and capsular contracture will reduce your risk and complexity of future surgeries. When asked about the safety profile of the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant, Dr. Larry Nichter, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, California, told us “It’s incredibly safe and so there’s far fewer lifetime surgeries with an IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant, compared to traditional silicone-gel implants.”

When you’re searching for the best plastic surgeon near me, make sure you find one who offers all the breast implant options, and provides you with updated data for each. Your surgeon should listen to your concerns and help you pick the best option for your body and your peace of mind.

Breast Implant Monitoring

What do you need to know about breast implant monitoring before your augmentation? Monitoring recommendations are different for silicone gel filled implants versus unstructured saline and the structured IDEAL IMPLANT. According to the FDA, women should get periodic MRIs to check for silent ruptures in silicone gel breast implants. A silent rupture happens when the shell of a silicone gel breast implant ruptures without causing physical symptoms. Women may walk around for years without realizing their breast implant has ruptured. The FDA recommends removal of ruptured silicone gel implants. Furthermore, even with the best plastic surgery near me it may be complicated to remove all the silicone gel after a rupture, especially if the diagnosis is delayed. Dr. Paul Zwiebel, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, tells us “With silicone gel implants there is a potential risk in delaying the diagnosis and not appreciating that a leak has occurred, and there is also a potential that the operation to replace the implant may be a little bit more involved and a little bit more lengthy.”

The risk of a silent rupture leaves some women feeling anxious about the status of their silicone gel breast implants. Fortunately, the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant provides instant rupture detection. If a rupture occurs, the saline inside is harmlessly absorbed by the body and detected by looking in the mirror. There is no need for an MRI and no risk of silent rupture. Dr. Mathew Plant of Toronto, Ontario, offers the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant because he believes women deserve an option that gives them peace of mind so they can experience the best plastic surgery near me. “Patients have aesthetic surgery to feel better about themselves and gain some confidence that they may be missing,” says Dr. Plant. “So the last thing that I ever want to do is put a device into someone that then gives them a whole bunch of new anxieties and keeps them up at night. If all we’ve done is trade one insecurity for another then we haven’t really accomplished anything at all. Those patients, I think, are the perfect candidates for the IDEAL IMPLANT.”

Getting the Results You Want

If you are getting a breast enlargement for cosmetic reasons, one of your top priorities is getting the look you want. So, while data is important you may find yourself thinking, “but does the IDEAL IMPLANT look good? Does it feel good?” According to patients and surgeons, the answer is yes. In fact, U.S. trial data reveals patient satisfaction at six years was 89.7% after a primary augmentation and 91.6% after a replacement augmentation. Surgeon satisfaction was even higher at 92.6% after a primary augmentation and 94.0% after a replacement augmentation. Dr. Zweibel tells us that at his practice, “for the patients who have chosen IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants for their breast augmentation, the satisfaction has been unanimous.” Women who are searching for the best plastic surgeon near me should look for a surgeon who provides this kind of data alongside complication rates and information about monitoring.

Always Ask Why

When you are making choices about your body remember to always ask why. Why do patients choose a certain implant, incision site, or placement? Are they looking at the data to see which choice is better, or just picking the same thing their friend or sister picked? Are you aware of the latest technology, or just going along with what your neighbor recommends? Remember, no two women are exactly the same, which means no two procedures should be the same. For the best breast augmentation results educate yourself on the options available. Visit a plastic surgeon who offers all the breast implant options so you have access to them all.

Preparing for Plastic Surgery

Maybe you’ve been contemplating plastic surgery for a while, or perhaps you have your procedure already scheduled. Either way, it’s never too soon to start preparing for plastic surgery and the recovery to follow. Knowing what to expect is one thing, but actually making preparations for what’s to come is one step further. Once you’ve educated yourself on the procedure you want and are sure you want to move forward, follow the tips below to make sure that you’ve thought of everything before the day of your surgery. Stress can affect your recovery and the more time you spend preparing for plastic surgery, the less stressed you’ll be, and the more quickly you’ll recover. You’ll also be able to enjoy the overall process more because you’ve done the hard work ahead of time.

Set Realistic Expectations

The vast majority of patients are delighted with their results once they’ve recovered, but do experience doubts and worries before they get there. Talk to your surgeon about what to expect and make sure that you’re on the same page about realistic results. Additionally, it’s a good idea to get yourself excited by planning new outfits to wear, writing yourself a letter about why you are making the change, and looking at old pictures to reassure your decision. You’ve probably already spent a lot of time researching what type of procedure you would like, but knowing the scientific data and what possible risks are involved are also an important aspect of preparing for plastic surgery. Ask your surgeon about any questions and concerns you may have so that there are no surprises. Please don’t hesitate to contact your surgeon’s office, as more questions come up in the days leading up to your procedure and try to mentally relax.

Double Check Medications

The top plastic surgeons in your area will tell you that checking and double checking your medications is crucial before your procedure. In order for you to recover properly, make sure that you avoid common medications like Vitamin E supplements, blood thinners, ibuprofen, and any medication containing aspirin. These medications could interfere with a successful recovery and you don’t want to reach for them by accident. Consider putting them in a safe place that is hard to reach to ensure that you have the best recovery possible.

Prepare Your Body for Recovery

Stick to a healthy diet and exercise regimen so your body is ready to heal. Don’t get too busy preparing for plastic surgery that you forget about the recovery component. You will need someone to drive you home from your procedure and then you’ll need to be somewhere that you can truly relax. Do all the hard labor the week before, like stocking up on healthy groceries, preparing meals, and placing important things within arm’s reach. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein are all nutritious foods that you’ll want to fuel your body with so that it feels better and heals quickly.

Recovery Space

Creating a place you want to come home to is one of the most important parts of preparing for plastic surgery. Do everything you can now to make your home a place you enjoy while you’re recovering. Setting up comfortable pillows and blankets in a way that will support any special sleeping positions that may be necessary is something you can do in the day or two before your surgery. You’ll probably be required to lie down and rest for long periods of time so recording all your favorite shows to catch up on or having a few good books to read is a good idea. After some procedures, your ability to lift, carry, or reach things will be limited, so taking the time now to put hard-to-reach items at an easier level will help ease your recovery process.

Tie Up Loose Ends at Work

Take care of business at home and at the office so that you’ll have peace of mind before, during and after your procedure. Fill prescriptions, get groceries, pay bills, and attend to whatever you need to now, so that you don’t have to worry about it later. Stress can impact your recovery, so plan ahead in order to focus on your healing. Preparing for plastic surgery also requires taking care of any last minute assignments or big projects at work. The last thing you are going to want to think about right before, during, or after surgery is work. Make sure that you have all your bases covered and won’t be expected to answer emails. Set up an auto-reply on your email and phone explaining that you are in vacation mode or out of office. Make sure that everyone is aware of your time off and respects that.

Support Group

Call on friends and family members that you trust to be there for you while you are recovering. Arranging school pickups ahead of time or just inviting friends to come visit while you’re stuck at home are a few ways that you can ask for help. Don’t forget that you’ll need someone to drive you home from your surgery as well. Family and friends are an essential part of preparing for plastic surgery. You may get lonely resting at home for a while. Make sure you invite people to come by and visit. Little tasks you didn’t think of may pop up during your recovery and having a group of people you can rely on will help you to not overwork yourself.

Stop Smoking

It’s critical to quit smoking before your surgery, even if temporarily. Nicotine can greatly slow down the natural healing process of your body and if not stopped, can even become life threatening. The drug can impact blood flow, increase scarring, cause death of tissue, and increase the risk of blood clots and infection. Even nicotine patches are off limits. Quitting six weeks or more before your surgery and not restarting until three weeks after (preferably not at all) is recommended to make sure you heal completely and correctly.

Find a Surgeon You Trust

What qualifications do you desire your doctor to have? Only the top plastic surgeons in your area will be board certified, meaning they have gone through extra, rigorous training to become experts in their chosen field and have more experience than other surgeons. This certification is extremely important and can give you greater peace of mind. Create a list of questions to bring to the initial consultation and see for yourself how the surgeon responds and how they make you feel. The first impression could be a good indication of if they are one of the top plastic surgeons in your area.

Preparing for plastic surgery can make the difference in whether you have a positive experience and a quick recovery or not. No matter how much your surgeon tells you about what to expect, if you don’t do a few things beforehand to get ready, you may have a harder time recovering and getting back to your normal routine. It’s up to you to commit to a successful recovery by committing to preparing for plastic surgery now. Following the tips above will help the entire process go more smoothly and you’ll be able to enjoy the experience stress-free.

The Right Time for Breast Implant Surgery

Are you considering breast augmentation surgery? Breast augmentation has one of the highest satisfaction rates of any plastic surgery procedure, and Realself patients give breast augmentations a 98% “Worth It” rating. The American Society of Plastic Surgery reports over 313,000 patients received a breast augmentation in 2018, making it the top cosmetic surgery procedure. In a recent RealSelf review of her breast augmentation with the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant a patient of Dr. Dallas Buchanan wrote, “After a long time waiting I was finally able to get them… They look awesome and I love them!! totally worth the wait and pain . . .” If you are on the fence about getting a breast augmentation, what is stopping you? Some women worry about breast implant cost, feel anxious about surgery, or do not want to go through the pain of recovery. You should never feel pressured to conform to a certain beauty standard, but it is also important to take into account how much time and energy you spend thinking about how you look. Weigh the benefits and compromises of getting a breast augmentation versus feeling self conscious about your body. You have the power to change the things you don’t like about your body. If you’re considering a breast augmentation here is some information to help you decide if it’s right for you.

Saline and Silicone Breast Implants: What You Need to Know

In the past, women had only two options for implants; unstructured saline and silicone gel. Each type is constructed with a solid silicone shell filled with saline or silicone gel. Saline implants are filled with saline, or saltwater, which is naturally absorbed by the body if the implant ruptures. Additionally, if the implant ruptures it will deflate and the patient will know immediately what has happened by looking in the mirror. However, the unstructured saline implant does not feel natural and tends to ripple or wrinkle under the skin.

Silicone gel breast implants address the issue of natural feel by filling the implant with thick, sticky silicone gel. Silicone gel provides a soft, natural feel and upper pole support. However, if a silicone gel implant ruptures the patient will be unaware, this is known as a “silent rupture.” The FDA recommends removing a ruptured silicone gel implant along with all leaked silicone gel that is in contact with the tissues. The possibility of a silent rupture can give women anxiety about the status of their breast implants.

The Latest Breast Implant Technology

The newest implants on the market are the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Saline Breast Implants. The IDEAL IMPLANT was created by a plastic surgeon to address the compromises women had to make when choosing between unstructured saline and silicone gel implants. The IDEAL IMPLANT is made with a solid silicone shell, like the other implant options. However, what sets this new implant apart is its internal design of two chambers and nested shell layers. The implant is filled with only saline, giving women peace of mind, since saline is harmlessly absorbed in case of a rupture. The internal structure gives the IDEAL IMPLANT stability and the soft, natural feel that is typically associated with silicone gel.

Comparing Breast Implant Cost

When you budget for your breast augmentation how much do you need to set aside? Realself reports the average price of a breast augmentation is $6,000-$7,000. However, to get a full picture of what you will pay out of pocket you need to factor in more than just your primary augmentation. Keep in mind that cosmetic surgery and any care associated with a cosmetic procedure is typically not covered by insurance. This is especially important for women undergoing breast augmentation because of the long term maintenance recommended for silicone gel breast implants.

Because of the risk of silent rupture, the FDA recommends women with silicone gel implants get MRI scans every two years to ensure their implants are intact. If you are considering silicone gel implants, you should factor in these regular MRI scans to your total costs. Most insurance companies do not cover MRIs related to cosmetic procedures, which leaves patients paying out of pocket for them. According to NerdWallet, the average cost of an MRI is $2,600.

One of the benefits of the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant is that it is filled with only saline. Saline filling means instant rupture detection and no need for repeated, expensive MRIs. Women who choose IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants can plan for their future without worrying about the cost of MRI scans every two years.

The Perfect Time for a Breast Augmentation

There has never been a better time to schedule your breast augmentation. With the new IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant technology, patients have access to the benefits of saline and silicone gel in one innovative implant. Patients are reporting high levels of satisfaction with their choice of implant. In fact, a study published in the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found at six years after an augmentation using IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants the patient satisfaction rate was 89.7% for a primary breast augmentation, and 91.6% for a replacement augmentation. Surgeon satisfaction rates were 92.6% for primary augmentations and 94.0% for replacement augmentations. Patients on Realself, like the one quoted above, give IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants a 98% “Worth It” rating. With this new technology long term breast implant cost is reduced, peace of mind is increased, and women enjoy a natural looking enhancement. Now is the perfect time to schedule your breast augmentation and free yourself from anxieties about your body.

A Breast Augmentation Before and After: One Patient’s Experience

We love to hear about other people’s experiences, especially when they’ve gone through something we also plan to go through. Relating to each other in this way is something humans do best! Reading online reviews and talking to friends and family who’ve had breast augmentation, before and after, can be extremely helpful in making your decision. If you’re contemplating a specific breast implant type or size, hearing what worked for someone else can be a key factor in your decision. A recent patient of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Subbio recently underwent a breast augmentation at the end of 2019 and chose to share all about her results and recovery on RealSelf. Millions of people come to RealSelf each month to make smart, confident choices about cosmetic surgeries and procedures—and to connect with vetted, board-certified doctors.

This patient, who goes by the username of yogapantsmilf said her procedure was “worth it.” She chose IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants for her procedure. In her posts, she discussed her feelings and thoughts about her new breasts after surgery.

Women choose to undergo breast augmentation for various reasons, but the most common are:

  • To increase natural breast size
  • To correct sagging and volume loss associated with age, weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  • To correct asymmetrical breasts

Before her surgery, yogapantsmilf was dissatisfied with the size of her breasts and wanted them to be bigger and more proportionate to the rest of her body. She describes her before-surgery size as “Deflated 32B but probably really an ‘A’ cup. Mostly wore sports bras . . .”

When you view breast augmentation before and after photos, you can see how great the patient looks, but you can’t always tell how satisfied they are with their results. After this patient’s surgery, she was extremely happy with her new shape, “I am 1 dpo [day post-op] and totally in love with my new breasts. . .’

Women who choose the IDEAL IMPLANT report very high satisfaction rates in general. Though you can expect to see a dramatic difference right away, most implants start out high and have to “drop” and settle into place over a period of time. yogapantsmilf wrote early in her recovery that “. . . They still have lots of dropping and fluffing of course but I know they will be perfect. I am 5’5, 125 pounds, 400cc ideal implant, under the muscle. Best decision ever.”

On the first day after breast augmentation surgery, yogapantsmilf noticed a change even a few hours afterward: “I can’t resist the desire to take a photo every chance I get for progress. Here’s another day 1 post op take a bit later in the day.”

Most women experience soreness, swelling, bruising, and tightness for a few days or weeks after their surgery. Your doctor will prescribe you some pain medication and advise you to avoid heavy lifting to ease some of this pain. Two days after surgery, yogapantsmilf said she experienced some of these symptoms: “Still in love with my boobs. Tracking my progress as often as possible. Woke up with my boobs hard and tight. Very uncomfortable. Took a pain pill and arnica immediately. 3 hours in I’m feeling ok. Not sure if that was the dreaded ‘morning boob’ but I’m glad it’s over.”

Just eleven days after her breast augmentation procedure, yogapantsmilf reported her level of pain had decreased dramatically. “I’m healing extremely well! Virtually no pain, just occasional tightness from slightly ‘over doing it.’ I have 2 little ones so it’s a bit hard to full relax and recover lol. But again, no complaints, my surgeon is extremely responsive via text and I’ve appreciated it big time. Steri strips are almost ready to come off too. Very minimal bruising. Love love love them already!!! My surgeon was amazing and the healing process has been a breeze!!”

Nineteen days post-surgery, yogapantsmilf said her “boobs are softening up perfectly!” She was so thrilled with her results she posted a video for other users on RealSelf to see. Most patients have to sleep on their back for about two to six weeks following surgery, but plastic surgeons sometimes ok sleeping on your side using pillows to support your side and breast. yogapantsmilf noted she was “loving my results more and more. Soft and dropping nicely, my incision scars are healing well and I’ve already started with silicon strips. Surgery and recovery has been a breeze so far. I’ve been sleeping on my side for some time and have no pain or discomfort. Probably will make my way back to the gym soon for basics like the stair climber and other low impact lower body/abs.”

Almost all patients feel like having some type of cosmetic surgery gives them a boost in their confidence. A study by the University of Basel found that “96% of the patients who underwent cosmetic procedures reported a consistently favorable outlook”. One of the most exciting things for women after breast augmentation surgery is going shopping for new bras. One month after her procedure, yogapantsmilf shares how she bought her first bralette in a bigger size: “Not sure exactly what size I am but home measurements puts me around a 32DD which seems about expected. The bralette is from Target and size medium, previously I was a small. Will wait one more month and surgeons clearance to get fitted and possibly decide on underwire bra. So far so good, just waiting for the right one to round out at bottom.”

At The Zwiebel Center for Plastic Surgery and Skin Care, Dr. Paul Zwiebel promises to guide you throughout your process with honesty and sincerity. If he believes a procedure is not right for you or it cannot realistically meet your goals, he will tell you.

“You need a surgeon who really understands what you want and how to help you meet your goals. You should be able to go into surgery not worrying that the doctor may do what they want to do rather than what you really want to have happen.”

Dr. Paul Zwiebel

When it comes to breast augmentation, it can be difficult to figure out exactly how much Denver breast implants cost, because every surgery is unique for each individual. When you meet with Dr. Zwiebel for your breast augmentation consultation, he can outline costs, answer your questions, and discuss other factors that should go into this important decision. Dr. Zwiebel is one of an exclusive group of doctors that offers his patients the new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

After undergoing ten years of development, testing, and refinement, the IDEAL IMPLANT was approved by both FDA and Health Canada in 2014. The IDEAL IMPLANT combines the look and feel of silicone gel implants with the safety of only saline inside. The IDEAL IMPLANT is a third option for breast augmentation that results in greater peace of mind for women.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is made up of a series of implant shells nested together, which controls the movement of the saline in a smooth, natural way. This structured design gives women the shape they want without the “water balloon” look and feel.  Folding and wrinkling are thought to be the main cause of implant rupture and deflation, and the IDEAL IMPLANT’s design reduces both of these common concerns. The edges are low for natural contouring to the chest wall.

Why Not Choose Silicone Gel Implants?

When you look at your different options for breast augmentation, you may be inclined to choose silicone gel implants as they have been available for a much longer time period. However, just because they’ve been around longer doesn’t mean they’re safer. Silicone gel implants are prone to “silent rupture”. This is where a leak or break occurs in the implant, but you don’t know it’s there. The only way to detect a silent rupture is with an MRI. Not every patient can afford to have these costly screenings every two years like the FDA recommends, so many patients ignore the warnings and don’t get their implants checked regularly.

When a silent rupture goes undetected for a lengthy period of time, other complications can start to show up. As the sticky silicone gel leaks out of the implant, it can come into contact with surrounding body tissue, leading to capsular contracture.

It’s not just about how much breast implants cost in Denver, it’s also about how you feel having the implant you chose inside your body for a long time. Women who choose the IDEAL IMPLANT have zero risk of silent rupture with these Denver breast implants. Costs like expensive MRIs are not necessary, because a woman can always know her IDEAL IMPLANTS are intact by just looking in the mirror.

If an IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, it will deflate only slightly due to its dual-chamber design. There is no need to worry about the fluid that leaks out, because the IDEAL IMPLANT is filled with sterile saline, which is absorbed harmlessly by the body.

Selecting the Right Size Affects How Much Breast Implants Cost in Denver

Some women who have breast augmentation surgery do not feel like their plastic surgeon listens to their goals and expectations, but go ahead with surgery anyway. Then they end up  with breasts that are not the size they wanted and find themselves completely dissatisfied. This can lead to subsequent surgeries, increasing the initial cost of the procedure. At The Zwiebel Center for Plastic Surgery and Skin Care, Dr. Zwiebel wants each and every patient to make sure they know what they want so a repeat surgery is not necessary.

“I have my patients try on implants so that we can get a sense of what look they want, and then we build on that. During the examination, I take specific measurements of each person to make sure that we’re selecting an implant that will fit anatomically. Then, from there, we’ll go on to some of the aesthetic considerations. We discuss how much volume it’s going to take to create the appearance that an individual woman is looking for and if that’s achievable or not.”

Dr. Paul Zwiebel

At Dr. Zwiebel’s office, patients can see how their potential breasts will look with the VECTRA XT 3D Imaging Solution. This machine takes images of your breasts to simulate the possibilities of your aesthetic procedure. Patients can also “sign out” the specific implant size they like and wear them at home with different items from their wardrobe.

“I even suggest bra shopping with the implants on to see if they fill out the bras in the way that they want to fill them out. We don’t want any surprises post-op that the implants are a little bit too big or a little too small for the bras that they would like to wear.”

Dr. Paul Zwiebel

Her implants were filled to 240 cc. She was able to achieve a fuller, rounder profile with IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants.

Another benefit to the IDEAL IMPLANT? It comes with lower risks of both rupture and capsular contracture when compared to silicone gel implants, at 8 years for primary augmentation. Click on this chart to see how the implants compare side-by-side in FDA clinical trials.

Dr. Zwiebel says, “For the patients who have chosen IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants for their breast augmentation, the satisfaction has been unanimous. Women love the appearance and the feel of the IDEAL IMPLANT, as well as the peace of mind that it carries fewer risks and complications than most alternatives.”

Why Patients Choose Dr. Mahony for Breast Enhancement

“Dr. Ellen Mahony has the best bedside manner around. Right from the very start I felt comfortable and well cared for. I had been to numerous consultations for breast augmentation and Dr. Mahoney was the most thorough. I knew right away she was the doctor for me.”

Facebook review from Heather D. Lewis, Fairfield, CT

Dr. Mahony’s patients feel welcome and comfortable in her office because she deeply invests her time in each and every patient to earn their trust. When you come in for a breast augmentation consultation, you’ll be presented with all your implant options, including silicone gel, saline, and the new IDEAL IMPLANT.

“There’s a limited number of plastic surgeons with extensive knowledge of all the currently available breast implant products,” says Dr. Mahony. “I believe that education for patients, with regard to differentiating their surgical options, is critical.”

Dr. Mahony will go over the benefits and compromises of each type of implant with you to find the one that will match your unique goals and individual body type, but she promises not to pressure you into a decision. With saline breast implants of her own, Dr. Mahony has a keen eye for detail, and strives to make every breast augmentation look beautiful and natural. Dr. Mahony wants you to be completely satisfied with your final results. She’ll have an in-depth discussion with you about the look you want and have you bring in some shirts and tops so that you can try on implant sizers and get an idea of your desired proportions and shape in advance of your procedure.

Plastic Surgeons Near Me: Dr. Mahony Offers the IDEAL IMPLANT

Dr. Mahony was recently recognized as an Ideal Implant Premier Network Surgeon due to her extensive expertise working with the IDEAL IMPLANT® in breast enhancement. This innovative new implant technology allows women a similar look and feel achieved with a silicone gel implant, but with the safety of only saline inside. Its unique design of layers of nested shells hold the saline in place so it won’t ripple and cause unwanted wrinkling.

This implant was developed to give women a beautiful, natural look along with peace of mind. More and more women are selecting this implant because it has a lower rate of both rupture and capsule contracture when compared to silicone gel breast implants. With the IDEAL IMPLANT, you won’t need an expensive MRI to detect a leak, you can tell by a quick glance in the mirror! Unlike unstructured saline implants that only have one chamber to hold the saline, the IDEAL IMPLANT is dual-chambered, so even if the outer chamber leaks, the inner chamber will retain its volume.

Select Dr. Mahony for Your Plastic Surgery

Dr. Mahony began her boutique plastic surgery practice over 15 years ago. Since then, patients have come to her office in droves to experience high quality plastic surgery and stunning results. “Dr Mahony and her entire staff are just amazing. I knew immediately after meeting Dr Mahony at my consultation that she was the dr for me. She, and her staff, took the time to get to know me and understand exactly what I wanted. I’m 4 [months] post [breast augmentation] and couldn’t be happier with my results. . . This office treats you like a patient, but also a friend.”

Realself Patient Shares IDEAL IMPLANT Breast Surgery Story

Realself user momwins, a mom of seven, had felt like she was small chested with a poochy belly ever since she was a teenager, despite her athletic lifestyle and small figure. After debating for a long time whether breast surgery was right for her, what she wanted, and if she could afford it, she decided she was ready for a much needed boost of confidence and a more proportionate body. While researching plastic surgery before and after photos, she decided that the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant would be the best option. She explains her thought process, how she decided to move forward, how she found the right surgeon, and what she thinks of her end result.

The Decision to Get Breast Surgery

Patient momwins says, “I am 42 years old and have either been pregnant or nursing babies over the span of 19 years . . . I have always been self conscious of my appearance in a bathing suit . . . I have struggled with a ‘poochy’ belly and small chest my whole life but even more after having kids. Even as a teenager I was athletic but could never get the abs I dreamed of. I have always been a small person and never gained more than 15-20 pounds with each pregnancy and lost it all shortly afterward. The problem has been the rectus abdominis muscles getting stretched so badly and the extra skin I’m left with, on top of the completely deflated breasts. I was about 34B before kids. Now I’m about an A . . . I am ready to begin my journey . . . It’s not about how others perceive YOUR body, it’s about how you feel in your own skin. My husband reassures me that he loves me regardless of my breast size or poochy belly . . . but I just don’t feel like myself in this current body. I want to look nice in dresses and wear a bikini without feeling self conscious.”

Once momwins discovered the IDEAL IMPLANT and researched plastic surgery before and after photos, she knew what she wanted. She appreciated the IDEAL IMPLANT’s ability to maintain a perky profile while feeling as soft as a silicone gel implant and loved that because it is filled with saline, it offers women peace of mind and instant rupture detection. When women choose the IDEAL IMPLANT, they don’t have to worry about getting FDA recommended MRI’s silent rupture. Based on a recent eight-year study, the IDEAL IMPLANT had the lowest risk of rupture and capsular contracture compared to silicone breast implants for primary augmentation.

Finding the Right Surgeon

After comparing feel, risk, and the cost of breast implants, momwins knew she wanted the IDEAL IMPLANT and a board certified plastic surgeon. Though the IDEAL IMPLANT is growing in popularity, it is exclusively available to board certified plastic surgeons who are part of the IDEAL IMPLANT network. She goes on to describe how she chose the IDEAL IMPLANT and why she wanted Dr. Robert Colgrove to perform her breast surgery saying,

“I found IDEAL IMPLANTS to be the safest and most natural-appearing and feeling . . . implant on the market so I will be getting those. For me it’s a no brainer . . . no MRI’s, no silent rupture, easy fix if any problems arise. I found Dr. Colgrove on RealSelf researching surgeons and I feel he will provide me with the look I am going for at a price I can manage with travel expenses in consideration. Since I live in Michigan and his office (Vinings surgery center) is in Atlanta, GA, we have been communicating through phone calls and emails. I have been in close contact with his surgical coordinator and so far everything has been professional and friendly. He features one of the most highly credentialed and accredited surgical facilities and personnel a plastic surgeon can obtain. I will fly in on a Tuesday, consult with Dr. Colgrove on Wednesday, surgery Thursday, follow up Friday, go home Saturday. Tickets bought, room reserved, deposit paid! I am doing all the pre OP things I have researched and just looking forward to the huge change about to take place!”

The Consultation and Breast Surgery

She flew to Atlanta and went to her one-on-one consultation with Dr. Colgrove and describes it, saying

“I am reflecting on the consultation. I am somewhat closer to deciding on the final size but still have my anxiety about the final decision. I have to tell them in the morning. They have both sizes on hand . . . So, how IDEAL IMPLANTs work is that they start at a certain cc amount and can be filled to a higher amount once they are placed . . . I feel like 450 was a good size but I could go slightly bigger and still be quite happy.”

On the day of the surgery, she was ready with her decision. “I think I’ve settled on the right size. I’m choosing 440 implants filled to 475cc. Dual plane. I just hope it’s not going to look too big. [The nurse] did the 3D image and it seemed to be just right.”

Post Breast Surgery and Recovery

Though momwins experienced the usual post breast surgery pain and soreness, her bruising disappeared within about a week and she was very happy with the size she chose. 6 weeks post op, she says

“I have been religious about massage and exercises as instructed for the past 3 weeks . . . I love the size. I tried on bras and 34D seems to fit well in maidenform brand. I found a very comfy/secure bralette to wear during the day and I wear a more supportive/restricting one at night. I’m getting impatient with progress and dropping. I know I have a ways to go and lots of changes to take place . . . All in all I am still happy with my breasts and looking forward to my three week ‘graduation’.”

Though her experience was hard at some points, momwins doesn’t regret her decision. She is very happy with her plastic surgery before and after photos and is glad she chose the IDEAL IMPLANT.

Dr. David Pratt Explains Why He Thinks Older Breast Implants Will Become “Obsolete”

Women have searched for a way to safely enhance their busts for hundreds of years. Before the Food and Drug Administration began regulating breast implants, women’s breasts were injected with a variety of substances into in an effort to increase their size. More often than not, these experiments ended poorly. In 1962, the first silicone gel breast implants were used for breast enhancement. Since then, breast implant researchers and manufacturers have sought to develop safer and more effective implants. The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant was developed by a plastic surgeon who was looking for a different implant option for his patients. Find out why one Seattle area surgeon believes this new technology will make silicone gel implants “obsolete.”

IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant Safety Profile

Two of the most common reasons for breast implant reoperation are capsular contracture and rupture/deflation. Finding a breast implant that offers a low risk of complication and looks natural are top priorities for women seeking breast enhancement. According to eight-year FDA Core Clinical trial data, IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants have one of the lowest rates of complications. Silicone gel breast implants have rupture risks of up to 13.6% through 8 years after a primary breast augmentation. In contrast, IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant has a rupture risk of only 2.1%, through eight years after a primary breast augmentation.

Capsular contracture is a condition in which the scar tissue tightens around the implant, distorting it and becoming uncomfortably hard. Capsular contracture rates in some silicone gel breast implants are as high as 16.2%, through eight years after a primary breast augmentation. Capsular contracture rates with with IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants are only 6.6% through eight years after a primary breast augmentation.

IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant Natural Look and Feel

In addition to the safety profile, women across the nation love the natural look and feel of the IDEAL IMPLANT. Dr. David Pratt, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Kirkland, Washington, tells us, “for most women who opt for breast implants, safety is a primary concern, however the desire for a beautiful, natural appearing and feeling breast is also vitally important. The IDEAL IMPLANT delivers flawlessly with regard to both safety and a super-natural result!” The IDEAL IMPLANT is a saline-filled implant, but because of the internal structure it has the softness and stability of a silicone gel breast implant. IDEAL IMPLANT is also filled during the procedure rather than coming pre-filled. This provides a wider variety of breast implant sizes as each IDEAL IMPLANT is filled exactly according to the individual patient’s needs.

IDEAL IMPLANT Lifetime Warranty

Breast implant manufacturers stand behind their products in the form of warranties, though warranties typically expire after ten years. In addition, most breast implant revision surgeries are not covered by insurance companies, even if they are medically necessary. According to Dr. Pratt, “the IDEAL IMPLANT comes with a lifetime warranty which is unparalleled in the breast implant industry.” Instead of expiring at ten years, the IDEAL IMPLANT Premium Protection Plan is renewable on an annual basis. With the IDEAL IMPLANT Premium Protection Plan, you are protected from most of the out of pocket costs of a revision surgery. The IDEAL IMPLANT Premium Protection Plan includes:

  • $10,000 in financial protection during the first 60 days after your breast augmentation to cover post-surgical complications.
  • $5,000 in financial protection for the first year to cover capsular contracture, scar revision, rupture/deflation, and other related events.
  • $5,000 in financial protection each year you renew your protection plan to cover capsular contracture, scar revision, rupture/deflation, and other related events.
  • LIFETIME breast implant replacement for rupture, 10 year replacement for capsular contracture.

Breast implants should provide you with increased self-esteem, not anxiety about the possibility of a reoperation. The IDEAL IMPLANT Premium Protection Plan gives you increased peace of mind so you can protect your finances and live worry-free. Learn more about IDEAL IMPLANT Protection Plans by visiting this page.

Where You Can Find The IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant

IDEAL IMPLANT provides impressive safety statistics, a natural look and feel, the ability to adjust breast implant sizes as needed, and an unparallelled warranty. As Dr. Pratt tells us, “I have been using the IDEAL breast implant for over 5 years and have hundreds of extremely satisfied patients. In my opinion, the IDEAL IMPLANT has essentially rendered the silicone breast implant obsolete.”

IDEAL IMPLANT is only available through exclusive board-certified plastic surgeons. Dr. Pratt is proud to offer IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants for women interested in the latest breast implant technology. He is dedicated to helping each patient find the exact breast implants that will work best for their body and their lifestyle. His plastic surgery office, Pratt Plastic Surgery located in Kirkland Washington, serves the Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Everett areas.

Cosmetic Surgery and the Cost of Confidence in Today’s World

Women in today’s world often get teased for how many beauty products they lug around in their purse each day. We may laugh it off or get defensive, but the truth is, those beauty products that we spend much of our precious time and money on are a large part of what helps us succeed in life. In our efforts to appeal to the beauty standard of the world, women feel like they must make their appearance a priority, regardless of what goals they are trying to achieve. Whether we are buying products and cosmetic surgery procedures because of the pressure to look beautiful, to gain a boost of confidence, or both, women are spending a large amount of money in their lifetime on their looks.

The Culture of Beauty

Society tells girls from a young age, you are your looks. We understand, based on the language of adult women around us and what we see and hear in the media, that though other things we achieve are important, looking beautiful should be our first priority. It should come as no surprise then, that as they’ve become more widely available, we’ve seen an increase in cosmetic surgery and breast implants across the United States. In an article by The Guardian, author Natasha Devon explains, “Neurobiologists now know there is no discernible difference between male and female brains at the point of birth . . . Brain development is determined by what we do, and therefore if, unconsciously, adults steer children towards certain activities based on their gender, they influence how their minds grow on a physiological level. Thus gender bias becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

Does Beauty Equal Success?

We may wish society was different and that everyone was perfectly equal, but the fact of the matter is, with certain beauty ideals ingrained in both men and women for centuries, it’s going to take a long time for things to change. Caring about your appearance is human nature and, in today’s world, striving for beauty is easier than ever through both surgical and non-invasive cosmetic surgery procedures. A woman has to care about her looks “if she wants to realize a comfortable level of success and self-sufficiency. Quite a bit of research has tried to determine how many seconds it takes before a person forms a judgment of someone they meet. Their brains calculate your value in terms of age, social standing, and how approachable you are within thirty seconds or less.” Just as we work hard on other qualities in our life, how we look is part of the personal brand we create. It also, no matter how much we’d like to deny it, affects the way we feel and act.

Outer Beauty Equals Inner Confidence

Marcia Reynolds, Psy. D., President of Covisioning LLC said, “…Face it, when you look good on the outside, you feel good on the inside. Should it be the other way around? It can be. Your emotions affect your appearance and attractiveness. Your confidence plays into your ability to influence others.” If it requires breast implants or another type of plastic surgery procedure to gain confidence, it may be worth it and save you years of negative thoughts toward yourself. Confidence and how we interpret beauty ideals and the associated means to achieve them are key. According to a study on the impact of makeup by Nancy Etcoff, makeup can provide a fleeting confidence boost to some, while making others feel objectified. If you enjoy getting ready for the day and using beauty treatments or cosmetic surgery as self care initiatives, then the confidence you glean from these activities can truly make you more beautiful to yourself and others. “Grooming rituals can be temporary confidence boosters, and studies suggest that the confidence they inspire is itself attractive.” We can try to change the unrealistic ideals in the media and stop talking negatively to ourselves about our own bodies, and things will slowly begin to change. The best thing we can do is not judge others who don’t share our same views toward cosmetic surgery, whether they’re for or against it. “At best, let’s quit judging each other for what we feel we need to do to get ahead, whether you think wrinkles are a beautiful part of life or not. Better we respect each other for who we are and how we each choose to cope with the realities we face.”

The Cost of Beauty

In our efforts to look our best, women in the United States spend about $300,000 just on their face during their lifetime, according to an article by Allure magazine. And that doesn’t include hair products, facial cosmetic surgery, breast implants, or skin care. “SkinStore surveyed 3,000 women to find out their beauty habits. In addition to the crazy-sounding lifetime cost, the survey says women are walking around with about $8 worth of products on their face per day.” Another thing learned during the survey was that most women apply an average of 16 products to their face before leaving the house. Face wash, toner, serum, eye cream, foundation, mascara, and eyeliner are just some of the products that women can’t leave home without applying.

Beauty Standards by Location

Who wears the most makeup and spends the most time getting ready changed depending on where they lived. “When it comes to the ‘most expensive faces,’ East Coast women stand out. Women in New York, Connecticut, and West Virginia spend the most with an average ‘face rate’ of $11 . . . This differs dramatically to the West Coast, with women in Utah, Colorado, and Montana spending a much lower $4 on their daily faces . . . Californian ladies are the quickest to get their face ready, taking a speedy 3 minutes . . . This is due to over 70% now using advanced treatment products [and cosmetic surgery procedures] which dramatically improve the appearance of the skin, meaning less time is spent on covering up and enhancing.”

The Cost of Hair Care

Hair care is a bit less expensive, but still a significant investment for most women. From salon appointments for cuts and coloring maintenance to at-home blow drying and hair products, a survey about how much women spend on hair care conducted by Lookfantastic.com reports that “the average women will drop $55,000 in a lifetime on hair products and treatments . . . Those numbers equate to roughly $80 and 11 hours per month.” These statistics also vary from state to state, but overall, 89% of American women dye their hair to enhance their appearance, meaning that in coloring alone, women are willing to spend a lot of money.

Confidence Through Cosmetic Surgery

The research supports the idea that our culture’s obsession with women looking beautiful isn’t going to change dramatically for a while. Most women who have a healthy idea of what it means to be confident and beautiful are okay with that. It is worth it to us to spend money every month on hair, skin, and beauty products, and we enjoy the technological leaps that cosmetic surgery has taken-making acne, wrinkles, and sun damage much less visible, therefore making makeup less necessary and confidence more accessible. Emma Campbell, Head of Editorial at SkinStore, said: “There has been a huge rise in advanced treatment products which now solve beauty concerns and transform the skin. These treatments are speeding up makeup application times and giving women newly found confidence every day.”

Breast Implant Technology

Cosmetic surgery is changing the beauty industry and helping more women feel confident without wearing layers of makeup. Other plastic surgery procedures, like breast implants, tummy tucks, and liposuction can also make a huge difference. When you take the time to think about it, years of trying to find the right clothes to hide your “imperfections” and buying more and more makeup to conceal your wrinkles may be the complicated answer to your quest for beauty and confidence. The easier way is through cosmetic surgery, which is more advanced and natural looking than ever. If you are thinking about getting breast implants, consider the latest in implant technology, the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. Designed to give you the natural look and feel of silicone gel implants with the safety of only saline inside, the IDEAL IMPLANT gives women the best of both worlds. Don’t let ridiculous beauty standards break the bank and don’t let anyone shame you for the money you do spend on feeling beautiful. The key is finding the healthy inbetween, where you feel good about how you look so you can focus on what’s more important in life.

A Before and After Breast Enhancement with Dr. Blagg

IMPORTANT NOTE: Below you may find untouched before and after photos of patients who have granted permission to their surgeon to show them anonymously. While we protect the identities of our patients, please be advised that by their nature, these photos contain sensitive content.

Looking for the best plastic surgeon for your breast enhancement procedure? At Synergy Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ross Blagg is a board-certified plastic surgeon who treats each and every patient with a personalized approach. He says, “My priority is for patients to feel they are in a comfortable, welcoming environment that’s free of judgment.” Dr. Blagg is one of an exclusive group of doctors to offer his patients the latest in breast augmentation with the new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants.

What is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

In the past, women only had two options for larger, fuller breasts: silicone gel-filled implants or unstructured saline implants. IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants were designed by a plastic surgeon to give women a third option for breast augmentation. This new implant technology gives women the look of silicone gel breast implants with the safety of only saline inside. The IDEAL IMPLANT’s design is unique. A series of nested shells and an upper pole inside the shell of the implant gives it structure and cuts down on wrinkling and rippling. The result is a smooth, beautiful implant that feels and looks natural. It also requires a smaller incision in surgery because it’s inserted into the breast pocket empty instead of pre-filled. This allows plastic surgeons to adjust the fill volume during the procedure for more symmetrical breasts and produces less noticeable scars.

Breast Enhancement Before and After with IDEAL IMPLANT

Many women considering breast augmentation find it helpful to see pictures of other patients who have had the procedure. In these photos, you’ll see photos of a 28-year-old woman who chose the IDEAL IMPLANT for her primary breast augmentation. The right implant was filled to 545 cc and the left implant was filled to 500 cc, giving this patient a full, symmetrical profile.

No Fear of Silent Rupture

In a 2017 independent survey of 933 women, 98% reported they would be concerned about silent rupture with silicone gel implants. Silent rupture occurs when there is a tear or rupture in the implant without your knowledge. This is a problem with silicone gel-filled implants and can lead to further complications such as capsular contracture. Many women who have a rupture in their silicone gel implants may not know it’s there for weeks, months, or even years, until they develop more noticeable symptoms. The FDA recommends that women who have silicone gel implants get an MRI every two-to-three years to check for silent ruptures.

With the IDEAL IMPLANT, there is no risk of silent rupture! Women don’t have to spend time stressing about a rupture, because they’ll be able to look in the mirror and see it immediately. Rupture causes a slight deflation in an IDEAL IMPLANT, but women can rest easy knowing that the only thing leaking out is a sterile saline solution that is absorbed by the body harmlessly. This eight-year study looked at rates of rupture and capsular contracture comparing women with silicone gel-filled implants and those who had the IDEAL IMPLANT. The results of the study showed that the risk of both of these common breast enhancement implant complications was lower with the IDEAL IMPLANT.
