Dr. Rowley Answers the Question, What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or a mastopexy, is needed when a woman’s nipples are no longer straight, but drooping towards the ground. This usually happens in women who have had children and breastfed, experiencing changes in size and volume of their breasts. Some people have thin, elastic skin and, over time, will experience more droopiness in their breasts than others. In a mastopexy, the nipple-areolar complex is always repositioned or lifted, and skin is then removed to tighten the breast skin envelope. This procedure takes 90 minutes to two hours and is done under general anesthetic in the office operating suite or a surgicenter.

Dr. Rowley Answers, “What is a Breast Lift Going to Look Like?”

“Unfortunately, many patients who come in seeking a mastopexy hope to look like a small-breasted person who has had implants. However, once you have had breast tissue followed by a volume loss, it is very difficult to make breasts look like someone who was never big-breasted to start with. It is very important that patients have a realistic view of this procedure. It is very important to me to spend a long time talking to my patients about what they are hoping for and set realistic expectations for this procedure so they can have a positive outcome.”

“IDEAL IMPLANTS are saline implants that offer a greater degree of structure and support.  Because of this increased support, it has less of a saline feel and more of a gel feel with the safety profile of a saline implant. They are not heavier than the traditional saline implants.”
