If you’ve seen Mel Gibson walking around in awe at what women are thinking in the 2000 romantic comedy, “What Women Want”, then you know how overwhelming that phrase can be. But when it comes to breast implants, most women know exactly what they want, and come to their consultations prepared with photos, questions, and concerns about how to get it. Your plastic surgeon will appreciate this. But they should also take the time to thoroughly explain to you all of your implant options and help you choose the implant that is best for you. Between silicone gel implants, saline, and the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant, women want to know what really will work best for them. We hear “silicone implants” in NYC all the time, but how great are they really, and how do they compare to the IDEAL IMPLANT?

“I look at a breast augmentation consultation as an educational process, with the necessity being that the patient learn about her options. Most people who come in for a consultation aren’t truly informed of their options and the trade-offs involved. I take into consideration a woman’s concerns and anatomy, and then I educate her in terms of what her options are. I try to honestly portray the pluses and minuses with each option so that she can make the best decision for her.” – NYC Plastic Surgeon, Dr. David P. Rapaport

NYC Silicone Implants

Women like silicone implants in NYC because they feel really natural. They are often called the “gummy bear” implant in comparison to saline, known as the “water balloon” implant, to give you an idea of how they feel. More natural feeling implants is a huge advantage, but they do come with some drawbacks. Silicone gel implants come with a risk of silent rupture, meaning the implant could break and leak silicone gel into your body without you knowing it. The drawback is that women can’t tell that their implant has broken, so the FDA recommends getting an MRI every two years to check for the commonly known “silent rupture” that can occur. If after getting your MRI, you have discovered rupture, the removal of the gel and replacement of the implant can be a long, expensive, and complicated procedure.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is the newest implant in the plastic surgery market. Patient satisfaction is high when it comes to this implant because it also has a natural feel with a very low risk of rupture. If it does rupture, women can tell just by looking in the mirror, and the saline filling is harmlessly absorbed by the body. Other options in NYC, like silicone implants, don’t measure up to IDEAL IMPLANTS in regard to rupture and capsular contracture risk rates. In a recent eight year study, the IDEAL IMPLANT proved to have the lowest risk of rupture and capsular contracture. This implant provides the priceless peace of mind that women want in New York. Plastic surgery before and after photos here and on Dr. Rapaport’s website will show you how this implant combines the best of all implant features in one.

“Based on my experience, I would say the IDEAL IMPLANT is an excellent option. Patients like the look and the feel. Above all they really like the peace of mind of knowing that they haven’t done anything they might regret down the road or that if there is a rupture, the process of replacing it is easier than with other implants that rupture.” – Dr. Rapaport

IDEAL IMPLANT VS. Silicone Implants in NYC

An eight year study compared the risk of implant rupture and the risk of capsular contracture between the increasingly popular IDEAL IMPLANT and silicone gel implants. At the 8 year mark, the risk of rupture in the IDEAL IMPLANT was only 2.1%  after primary breast augmentation in comparison to 7.4% (Allergan), Mentor (13.6%), and Sientra (7.2%)—all silicone gel implants.

When the IDEAL IMPLANT first began clinical trials in 2009, surgeons were excited but unsure. Now that it’s been approved by the FDA and Health Canada for public use since 2014, and proven itself in this telling eight year research study, women and surgeons alike are seeing the breast implant safety benefits it provides compared to silicone implants in NYC.

Before and After Photos

This 33 year old patient desired breast enhancement and nipple reduction, but without scars on her breasts. She also had concerns about the long term safety of silicone implants, as well as a strong desire to avoid any need for proactive and expensive MRI scans to monitor for silent rupture. Therefore, she opted to undergo her augmentation with IDEAL IMPLANTS, which were placed via underarm with endoscopic assistance. She is happy to know that IDEAL IMPLANT rupture rates are low and, that even if such a rupture were to occur, she could have the implant replaced easily. She had a 340cc implant placed in her right breast and a 325cc placed in her left breast.

Dr. Rapaport, a board-certified New York plastic surgeon, did his plastic surgery training at the New York University’s Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, which is widely regarded as the nation’s top plastic and cosmetic surgery residency program. After a one-year microsurgery fellowship, Dr. Rapaport moved to Florida, where from 1993 to 1997, he was a key faculty member at the University of South Florida. There, he developed a successful and respected practice as a cosmetic plastic surgeon. During his four years in Florida, he also helped craft legislation requiring broader insurance coverage for reconstructive breast surgery, directed the cosmetic surgery education of residents, and did pioneering work in endoscopic and minimal incision breast and oncologic (melanoma) surgery. In 1997, he returned to New York City and opened his private cosmetic surgery practice in Manhattan, New York. His endoscopic work has helped him gain popularity among women who don’t want scars on their breasts when they get their IDEAL or silicone implants in NYC.

“I love being a doctor, I love being a surgeon. It all started with my residency at Harvard in general surgery. My mentor there taught me to listen to your patient. You need to understand that there is no all-purpose algorithm for treatment. Treatments need to be customized based on the concerns and values of the patients. I find that too many doctors these days do everything on a reflex action. That’s overly simplistic and it’s simply wrong. Patients need a variety of options.

“I think our practice stands out because we very much individualize our treatments. I’m very proud to be able to offer minimally invasive treatments that hide scars. I’m proud that I do virtually all my liposuction, and the vast majority of my facelifts, under IV sedation. I tell you to take a deep breath, roll over, and I beat the chances of airway problems or blood clot. I enjoy the act of surgery as well as the relationships with the patients that occur from the whole process. So I guess I’m a pretty happy guy.” – Dr. Rapaport
