Women Concerned About Silent Rupture in Silicone Gel Breast Implants

Nearly 75 percent of women say they’d be “very” or “constantly” concerned about “silent” or unknown ruptures of silicone gel breast implants, according to survey results presented recently at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Three surveys of 1,143 women showed 97 percent want to know if silicone gel implants rupture, with 95 percent wanting the faulty implant replaced even if it’s not causing symptoms. And surgeons – especially men – need to more diligently heed patients’ concerns about ruptures, said Vivian Ting, a California-based surgeon.

“The surveys clearly showed that the majority of women have very real concerns about silicone gel in their bodies and the risk of silent rupture,” Dr. Ting told attendees at the Aesthetica Super Symposium of ASPS in Las Vegas last week. “Surgeons may underestimate this anxiety simply because they don’t share the concern, in great part because 90 percent are male. Yet a woman’s anxiety about what is in her body is a critical part of the full treatment picture.”

What Patients Need to Know About Breast Implants

What do you need to know before you choose breast implants for your breast augmentation? Doing some research before you choose an implant and a surgeon will help you make the right choice for your lifestyle. A 2017 independent survey revealed concerns many women have surrounding their breast implants. The findings may address similar concerns you have and can help you decide which type of breast implant is right for you.

Breast Augmentation Concerns

The survey found many women are concerned about the possibility of their silicone-gel implant having a silent rupture. A silent rupture happens when a silicone-gel implant breaks and the silicone begins to leak into surrounding tissue. This type of rupture can only be detected by an expensive MRI scan. When asked “If you had silicone gel implants, how concerned would you be about silent rupture?” 68% of women answered they would be somewhat to constantly concerned. A rupture with IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants is instantly detectable by looking in the mirror and typically needs a less invasive procedure if replacement is required.

Rupture Rates Of Breast Implants

How much do you need to worry about your breast implant rupturing? With the IDEAL IMPLANT, the answer is not much. The IDEAL IMPLANT boasts a lower rupture rate when compared to major silicone-gel brands over seven years. The risk of rupture in the IDEAL IMPLANT is only 1.8%, compared to Allergan Gel at 7.4%, Mentor Gel at 3.4%, and Sientra Gel at 5.4%. The survey found that a lower rupture risk is a top priority for 7 in 10 women who are choosing between breast implants with a similar look and performance. Although it is filled with saline, the look and performance of the IDEAL IMPLANT is comparable to silicone-gel implants because of the stability that is given by the internal structure.

How to Find a Surgeon for Your Breast Augmentation

One of the most important things you can do before your breast augmentation surgery is finding the right surgeon. After learning the basic facts about implant options, many women said they would intentionally seek out a doctor who offers the IDEAL IMPLANT. The IDEAL IMPLANT is only offered by eligible, board-certified plastic surgeons who are dedicated to giving their patients the best options and outcomes. To find one close to you, use the Surgeon Finder on the IDEAL IMPLANT website. To find out more about the IDEAL IMPLANT, or search for a surgeon near you, visit our website today.

Taking Charge of Your Breast Augmentation

You deserve to have the best breast implants, the best surgeon, and the best overall experience for your breast augmentation. So, how do you make sure that you’re selecting a qualified and compassionate surgeon and an outstanding implant that will help you achieve this reality?

What to Ask Your Doctor

You need to take control of your initial consultation and come ready to discuss a list of your questions and concerns about your procedure. If your doctor is hesitant or refuses to answer them, you may have to look elsewhere for a surgeon who is willing to take their time putting your mind at ease. The following questions are a good place to start:

  • Are you board-certified in plastic surgery? (Most doctors will have this listed on their website, but it’s a good idea to double check.)
  • How many years of experience do you have in breast enhancement surgery?
  • Am I a good candidate for breast implants?
  • Can I view breast augmentation before-and-after photos before making my decision?
  • Which implants do you offer?
  • What kinds of risks and complications are possible with my procedure?
  • How long will it take me to recover from the surgery?
  • How many additional implant-related operations should I expect to undergo in the future?

Your board-certified plastic surgeon should be caring, respectful, and direct about their answers to these questions. After all, this is major surgery, and you deserve to know all the facts.

Choosing Quality Breast Implants

Here are some types of implants available on the market today. Your doctor may or may not offer all of these options.

  1. Silicone gel-filled breast implants. These implants were developed in the 1960s, and are filled with soft, elastic silicone gel. Though these implants do give you a natural feel, they carry a high risk of “silent rupture” and require an expensive MRI every two years to ensure they’re intact.
  2. Traditional saline-filled breast implants. These implants are filled with sterile salt water. They are considered a “safer” option than silicone gel-filled implants for your breast augmentation because they are filled with only saline, but they have no internal structure, so they tend to ripple and feel less natural.
  3. IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants. These breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution, and contain layers of shells to give the implant structure. These internal nested shells support the implant to prevent “rippling” and collapse. This means they look beautiful and feel natural. Plus the IDEAL IMPLANT has a lower rate of rupture and lower rate of capsular contracture when compared to other implants.

“7 in 10 women state lower rupture risk is their top priority in choosing between implants with similar look and performance.”

With the IDEAL IMPLANT, patients don’t have to spend money for expensive MRIs, because if an implant ruptures, you can tell just by looking at your breast in the mirror. Plus, you won’t have to worry about side effects to your health from silicone gel, because the IDEAL IMPLANT is filled with salt water, which is not harmful to your body. Bottom line: the IDEAL IMPLANT promises a great look and peace of mind.

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation

After your procedure, you want to ensure that you have a smooth and easy recovery. When you prepare in advance, you can resume your normal lifestyle sooner. If you’ve chosen the new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants for their unique structure and enhanced safety features, you’ll go into your surgery confident you’ve made the best choice on the market today. Here’s what you can do to prep for your procedure.

Get a Mammogram

Depending on your plastic surgeon, you may be required to undergo a pre-operative mammogram. Most doctors encourage you to do this, so they will have a standard mammogram to compare future ones too.

Follow Your Surgeon’s Instructions

You’ll be given a list of pre-operative instructions to follow before your breast augmentation. It’s important that you do exactly as your surgeon recommends to avoid any complications during surgery. Though some instructions may seem unnecessary, your doctor should be willing to explain in detail why they are required. Some common instructions you’ll see may include:

  • Avoid typical drugs like ibuprofen as they may thin the blood.
  • Don’t wear jewelry on any part of your body on the day of the surgery.
  • Do not eat or drink anything 8 hours before surgery.
  • If you’re a smoker, quit if possible.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Wear a shirt that buttons or zips in the front.

Patients who want their transition to new breast implants to be an easy one should observe and keep all the guidelines their surgeon gives to them.

Take Care of Household Chores

Clean up around the house, make meals in advance if you can, pay all bills, and finish all your laundry before you go in for surgery. Treat your breast augmentation as you would any other surgery. Realize that you’re going to need time to recoup and recover.  Ask a friend or family member to stay with you for the first few days after surgery to ensure you can get around ok and get plenty of rest.

Why IDEAL IMPLANTS May Be Right For You

If you’re still deciding which breast implants to choose, you should ask your doctor if they offer the IDEAL IMPLANT. These implants can offer you peace of mind! Since the IDEAL IMPLANT is filled with saline, which has no harmful effects to your body, you won’t need to spend time before surgery stressing about future leaks. The safety of saline choice is the IDEAL IMPLANT.

Breast Enhancement: Things to Consider Before Surgery

Are you ready to make a change? Is 2018 the year you’ll finally get those breast implants you want? Before you schedule your procedure, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • Which implants are right for me?
  • What is the post-surgery recovery like?
  • How much maintenance is required?

Let’s look at some of the answers to the above questions and find out how the new IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants can help you achieve the breast enhancement results you want.

Which Implants are Right for Me?

In the past, women had two basic options for their breast enhancement. They could choose from silicone gel-filled implants or traditional saline implants. Silicone gel-filled implants feel more like natural breast tissue, but carry a high rate of rupture and require MRI scans every two years to detect a leak. Knowing these risks, many women opted for traditional saline because salt water can be absorbed easily by the body without harmful effects. However, traditional saline implants tend to ripple and give the breast an abnormal shape. The IDEAL IMPLANT is the best option out there for breast implants because they are filled with saline, yet the multiple shells inside give the implant structure and support, so they look and feel natural. Plus, you can detect a leak just by looking in the mirror.

What is the Post-Surgery Recovery Like?

You will have to restrict the amount of cardio you do after your breast enhancement surgery. For up to 12 weeks, you’ll be limited in what you can do. So plan on lots of rest and taking it easy after surgery. Most patients can go back to work after 5 to 7 days, as long as you’re not expected to perform manual labor. If you choose to have your breast implants placed behind muscle instead of on top, you may be sore longer. Your surgeon will discuss the right recovery plan for you.

How Much Maintenance is Required?

When you talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon about your breast enhancement surgery, be sure to ask how long your implants will last and what other procedures you might expect down the road. Some women need surgery after about ten years to replace the implants if they’re leaking or causing other problems. You may also decide you want your implants out because your weight has changed, you’ve decided to get pregnant, or you are tired of the maintenance.

A Recent 2017 Survey About Breast Implants

“89% of women (91% of nurses) said that they would be less likely to choose a silicone gel implant after learning that the FDA recommends regular MRI scans to check for silent rupture with silicone gel implants.”

With the IDEAL IMPLANT, no MRIs are necessary. Your capsular contracture risk is lower, and you have a lower risk of rupture compared to the other options out there. Plus all IDEAL IMPLANTS come with a lifetime replacement warranty!

Pros and Cons of Breast Implants Virginia Beach Women Need to Know

It is a big decision to pursue a breast augmentation. Cost is just one significant factor. When choosing to get breast implants, Virginia Beach women need to be educated on all their options. Women typically choose between saline or silicone gel implants. But a new, innovative kind of implant is available – IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants. Dr. Matthew Galumbeck is among a select network of plastic surgeons board-certified to offer the unique IDEAL IMPLANT.

The Risks and Benefits of a Breast Augmentation, Costs, and Other Concerns.

While cost plays a major part in a woman’s decision to receive breast implants, Virginia Beach women should also think about the safety each different type of breast implant. Silicone gel implants can rupture at any time. It is a difficult situation requiring an MRI to detect rupture and then surgery to correct the problem.

With the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants, “silent rupture” is not possible. Women always know their implants are intact by how they look in the mirror. The IDEAL IMPLANT has a unique internal structure that reduces wrinkling and collapse when compared to traditional saline implants. There are two separate chambers filled with saline as part of a series of implant shells nested together. When choosing between saline and silicone gel, women commonly feel they have to compromise youthful shape and natural feel for safety. Not so with IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants. You get both. The advanced design of the IDEAL IMPLANT provides the desired volume and projection women want while also giving the peace of mind women need.

Risks and Benefits of Silicon Gel and Saline Implant for Breast Enhancement

Pleasanton, CA, women have typically had to choose between saline or silicone gel implants when wanting a breast enhancement. Both options come with drawbacks though. Did you know that silicone gel implants can rupture requiring surgery to remove the implants and leaked gel? Plus, to make matters worse, an MRI is needed to detect the rupture. Women can select saline implants to avoid the possibility of “silent rupture.” However, with saline breast implants, Pleasanton, CA, women have experienced wrinkling and collapsing. Not to mention that an ordinary saline implant lacks the natural feel and look many women desire from a breast augmentation.

The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant: A Better Choice

Women now have another choice for breast implants. Pleasanton women can choose the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. With its new and innovative design, IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants offer the peace of mind of saline and the natural look and feel of silicone gel. They use several implant shells and two separate chambers to hold saline. This internal structure supports the implant edges to lessen wrinkling and reduce collapse. With an IDEAL IMPLANT, it is the internal design that provides the youthful shape and realistic look women desire, not the filler type. Furthermore, there is no possibility of a silent rupture with IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants. Unlike silicone gel breast implants, women can detect a rupture by simply looking in the mirror. Women can feel and see whether their implants are intact. No need for an MRI.

What do women want from their breast implants? Atlanta women want beautiful and natural results, low-long term maintenance costs, and less anxiety about rupturing. You should find a surgeon who offers different breast implant options so you don’t have to compromise on one of these priorities. If you are considering breast implants, Atlanta surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove offers the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. Beautiful Look, Peace of Mind

How does the IDEAL IMPLANT compare with silicone gel implants and saline implants? The IDEAL IMPLANT is filled with saline, not silicone gel. The internal chambers of the IDEAL IMPLANT give it stability, so you are left with a more natural feel than traditional saline implants.

Costs and Concerns of Breast Implants, Atlanta

After a breast augmentation, if a silicone gel implant ruptures, it needs to be removed, just like any other breast implant. However, unlike other implants, silicone gel implant ruptures are only detectable with an MRI. The FDA recommends women with silicone gel implants get an MRI every few years to detect these silent ruptures, a cost that is often not covered by insurance companies. A recent survey found 89% of women said that if the overall performance of the implant is similar, they would prefer an implant where rupture could be detected by looking at the breast rather than needing an MRI scan. The long-term maintenance costs and concerns about silent ruptures are unnecessary when you can get the same beautiful results from the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants.

Concerns About Breast Augmentation Before and After Surgery

In a 2017 independent survey, “Women’s Preferences in Breast Implants,” researchers surveyed 933 female respondents about breast implants. Surgeons typically “educate” women about breast augmentation before and after their surgery hoping they will lay aside worries of silent ruptures of silicone gel implants. However, the survey found how women feel about the silent rupture risk of silicone gel implants:

  • 98% of women reported they would be somewhat concerned to constantly concerned about a silent rupture.
  • 91% of women reported that if the implant is overall similar in performance, they would prefer saline coming into contact with their tissue over silicone gel in case of rupture.
  • 95% of women said they would want to replace a silicone gel implant if they knew it had ruptured but was not causing symptoms.

Women Prefer Lower Maintenance Breast Implants

Many women do not realize the long term costs associated with silicone gel implants. While all implants have the possibility of rupturing, and are classified as temporary devices by the FDA, the cost of repeated MRIs to check for silent ruptures can be a financial and psychological burden. The survey found the following data:

  • 89% of women said that they would be less likely to choose a silicone gel implant when they learned the FDA recommends regular MRIs to scan for silent ruptures.
  • 89% of women said if the performance is overall similar, they would prefer implants where a rupture can be seen by simply looking at the breast, rather than needing an MRI scan.

Women Want the IDEAL IMPLANT

After learning about Structured Breast Implants 49% of women stated they would seek out a surgeon who offers the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant. Women who worried about their breast augmentation before and after surgery were not relieved by the “education” traditionally provided by surgeons and wanted a different option.
