Breast Surgery - Making the Best Choice

IMPORTANT NOTE: Below you may find untouched before and after photos of patients who have granted permission to their surgeon to show them anonymously. While we protect the identities of our patients, please be advised that by their nature, these photos contain sensitive content.

If you’ve been thinking about breast implant surgery, Kansas City’s University of Health Professionals is the place to go. Their physicians are well trained and dedicated to providing the best possible care and experience to each patient. The goal of breast implants is to increase breast size or shapeliness. The common result is an improvement in body proportion, femininity, and self-confidence.

Implant Options

Breast implants are available with both saline or silicone gel filler, and each has benefits and compromises. Saline implants are the less expensive choice; they are easily adjustable, and the body readily absorbs any leaks. However, they feel less natural than silicone gel implants and are more prone to visible rippling. While silicone gel implants feel more natural than their counterparts, they are more expensive and require an MRI to detect silent ruptures, which could occur at any time after breast implant surgery. Kansas City women now have a third option, the latest development in implant technology. IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants, the newest implant, combines a natural look and feel with saline as the filler.

IDEAL IMPLANT

In the past, women seeking breast implants were forced to choose between the peace of mind of saline or the more realistic look and natural feel of silicone gel. IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants are the next-generation technology that offers you the benefits of both, so that women can feel beautiful and secure. Women with the IDEAL IMPLANT need only to look in the mirror to be able to see that their implant is intact. If, by chance, they experience a rupture in their implant, the implant will decrease in size and the saline (salt water) inside will be absorbed safely by the woman’s body.

The Look and Feel of IDEAL IMPLANT

Breast augmentation before and after photos are helpful for visualizing the look of the implant once it is inserted.  Because of the new way in which it is structured (a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold the saline), collapse and rippling in the implant is significantly decreased, and the implant provides a very natural look and feel. More shells mean more resistance against compressions and contractions which results in the highly sought after lower capsule contracture rate.

IDEAL IMPLANT vs. Silicone Gel

When intact, silicone gel implants are FDA approved and safe. But when they rupture, the FDA states the “implant and any gel should be removed.” Silicone gel ruptures are “silent,” meaning they can only be detected by an MRI, so the FDA recommends that women have an MRI scan every other year to find out if their implants have ruptured. When it comes to breast implant surgery, Kansas City women, like women everywhere, desire peace of mind. To see a full comparison, view the Woman’s Guide to Breast Implant Choices.

The IDEAL IMPLANT has a natural feel without risk of silent rupture and a youthful shape and contour. You will always know your implants are intact by merely looking in the mirror. Just some of the advantages of the IDEAL IMPLANT include a lower rupture rate, lower capsule contracture rate, higher rupture strength, smaller incision, the safety of saline, no risk of silicone gel in tissues, no MRI scans needed to detect ruptures, and no silent ruptures that go undetected.

When considering breast implant surgery, Kansas City women should know that The IDEAL IMPLANT was approved by FDA and Health Canada in 2014, based on results from a US clinical trial with 502 women that started in 2009. The IDEAL IMPLANT is made in the United States using advanced robotics to achieve higher product consistency. Our FDA-inspected facility has been manufacturing silicone medical devices for decades. Quality is built-in, and a limited warranty is included, so that you can feel confident in your choice.

What Real Women Say about the IDEAL IMPLANT

“I never really liked my breasts and always wanted them to be fuller, but not have people know I received a breast augmentation. When I had the option to receive the IDEAL IMPLANT, I chose it because it combined the safety with the full look I had been wanting. I have since had a baby, and my breasts still look fantastic.” -Lacey, Respiratory Therapist, and mother of two.

These photos are an excellent depiction of what you could expect from your breast implant surgery. Kansas City’s trusted surgeon, Dr. Richard A. Korentager, will take his time to answer any questions and concerns you may have about your surgery. He will help you to decide which implant and size are right for you and your body. With Dr. Korentager, you will be confident as you go into surgery.

What to Expect

The surgery takes one to two hours. General anesthesia is used for the majority of breast augmentation patients. Incisions are made at any of the following locations depending on the goals for surgery and your anatomy: breast crease, armpit or at the edge of the areola. To create a pocket for the implant, the surgeon lifts the breast tissue and skin and then places the implant either above or beneath pectoral muscle, centered just below the nipple. The incisions are then closed, and tape and dressings are applied. You will be pleased with your breast augmentation before and after photos and the difference the IDEAL IMPLANT makes.

You can expect to feel discomfort and tightness in your chest during the days following surgery. It is important that you walk every couple of hours to prevent blood clots in your legs, and to speed up the healing process. You will be asked to wear a special bra designed to give you support as you recover. Sutures will be removed within ten days, and recovery is typically achieved within one to two weeks after surgery.
