Why Some Women Choose the IDEAL IMPLANT

The IDEAL IMPLANT was approved by the FDA in 2014, so it is still relatively new to a lot of patients, and not everyone has heard about its unique properties. Developed by a plastic surgeon, it addresses many women’s concerns, especially those regarding silent rupture. Silicone implants are the only type of implant to silently rupture, as saline-filled implants deflate when  a leak is present and the saline is harmlessly absorbed by the body. When a silicone gel-filled breast implant ruptures, sticky silicone gel can ooze out of the implant and get into the surrounding body tissues making removal difficult. Silent ruptures can go undetected for weeks, months or even years, and there is no way to tell they are ruptured without an MRI or ultrasound scan.

In a 2017 Independent Survey, “Women’s Preferences in Breast Implants,” 89% of women (91% of nurses) said that they would be less likely to choose a silicone implant after learning that the FDA recommends regular MRI or ultrasound scans to check for silent rupture with silicone gel implants.

The IDEAL IMPLANT is filled only with saline, and carries a lower rate of both rupture and capsule contracture when compared to silicone gel breast implants for primary augmentation. If you develop a rupture in your IDEAL IMPLANT, you will know by a quick glance in the mirror, Dr. Kerner says.

“The IDEAL IMPLANT is a new type of  breast implant that combines the safety of saline with the natural look and feel of silicone. Created with multiple internal compartments within the outer shell, the implant allows the saline to flow and distribute internally throughout the implant, creating a natural appearance and feel. The IDEAL IMPLANT is called a ‘structured implant,’ due to its internal compartments, and it maintains the safety that saline implants are known for.”

Patients are highly satisfied with the IDEAL IMPLANT, and more women are asking for it now over other options. In the July 2018 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, after 6 years, “Patient satisfaction was 89.7 percent for primary and 91.6 percent for replacement augmentations; surgeon satisfaction was 92.6 percent for primary and 94.0 percent for replacement augmentation.” Patients and surgeons alike are thrilled with the beautiful results they can get with this new breast implant technology.
