Your Breast Implant Options
Many women have heard of the different types of breast implants, but may not know what makes each type of implant distinctive.
“I think that it is important that the patients have options, and that’s why I like to offer options to patients – saline, silicone gel, and now the IDEAL IMPLANT. I think these are three great options for patients. I don’t think any patient that I see now can’t come up with a decision given those options.” -Dr. Steven Ringler
For your breast augmentation before and after in Grand Rapids, you should know the basics about each type of implant.
Saline implants: These implants have an outer shell made of silicone, but are filled with sterile saltwater (saline) solution during surgery. They vary in size and can have either smooth or textured shells. The FDA has approved saline-filled breast implants for breast augmentation in women age 18 or older. Many women say this implant feels similar to a water balloon. Since there is no internal structure, the upper portion of the implant can collapse when held upright, and the implant may wrinkle under the skin. Some women complain of a less-than-natural look and feel with saline implants.
Silicone gel implants: These implants have a silicone outer shell, and are filled with silicone gel inside. They come in different sizes and have either smooth or textured shells. The FDA has approved silicone gel-filled breast implants for breast augmentation in women age 22 or older. Silicone gel implants do tend to offer a more natural feel over saline implants, but require a larger incision in surgery because they are pre-filled with silicone gel.
IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants: These implants offer many advantages over your other breast implant options. The design of the implant is unique with a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold the saline filler. This gives the implant structure. This structure controls the movement of the saline for a more natural feel while reducing folding and wrinkling. The FDA and Health Canada approved the IDEAL IMPLANT for breast augmentation in women age 18 or older in 2014.
Grand Rapids Breast Augmentation Before and After
In these photos, you’ll see a 41-year-old woman who chose IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants filled to 375cc using a transaxillary approach with no breast scar.
Dr. Ringler says the IDEAL IMPLANT is the best design change he’s seen throughout his entire career, and he is excited about the results he’s seen.
“I like the shape of the IDEAL IMPLANT. I think the clinical results are better, especially in women who have very little breast tissue and have lost a lot of breast volume. Even with a silicone gel or traditional saline, I don’t think I get as good a shape in those patients as I’ve been seeing with the IDEAL IMPLANT. So that’s been very important to me.”
Breast Augmentation Before and After in Grand Rapids: What You Should Know About Silent Rupture
Risks are a possibility with any surgical procedure, but there are some risks breast augmentation patients can minimize, including the risk of silent rupture. With silicone gel implants, the FDA recommends women obtain an MRI three years after surgery, and every two years after that to determine if the implant has ruptured or not. These MRIs are expensive, not 100% reliable, and more often than not have to be paid for out of pocket by the patient. This imaging is required because when a silicone gel implant ruptures, it does so silently. This process of silent rupture means that a woman can have a leak in her implant and not know about it for months or even years. When a silicone gel implant ruptures, silicone gel migrates out, sticking to body tissues. If a rupture is detected in a silicone gel implant, FDA recommends that the implant be removed, and the surgery can be complex.
“I don’t think that women are going to get MRI’s every three or four years to monitor their silicone gel implants. I’ve taken out hundreds of ruptured silicone gel implants during my career. It’s a big operation, removing the silicone gel. If I never see another silicone gel implant related problem, I’d be very happy.” – Dr. Ringler
In a recent ten-year study looking at women in FDA Core clinical trials, silicone gel implants were shown to have a high rate of implant rupture in breast augmentation patients. Some brands of silicone gel implants had rupture rates of around 8%, while others had rupture rates as high as 24%.
The Benefits of the IDEAL IMPLANT
Women can have peace of mind when they pick the IDEAL IMPLANT for their Grand Rapids breast augmentation, before and after the procedure. Over eight years, FDA core clinical trial results for primary augmentation showed the IDEAL IMPLANT to have a rupture risk of only 2.1%. Unlike silicone gel, if an IDEAL IMPLANT leaks, women can tell just by looking in the mirror. No MRIs are needed. You don’t have to stress about a foreign substance leaking into your body, as the implant is filled with saline, which is safely absorbed. The dual-chamber design of the IDEAL IMPLANT means that the implant will not totally deflate, and about 60% of the original volume will be maintained. This means a woman doesn’t have to rush to her plastic surgeon to get it removed as quickly as possible. She can have it switched out on her timetable.
“With the saline implant, if it leaks, it’s a very easy thing to change. There’s minimal downtime, and it’s at minimal inconvenience to the patient.” – Dr. Ringler
Breast implant revision surgery with the IDEAL IMPLANT can be done in less than half an hour with a local anesthetic, and the surgeon can use the same incision that was made in the original breast augmentation procedure to swap out the implants. This means less scarring and less recovery afterward.
Dr. Ringler most commonly uses the transaxillary approach when it comes to Grand Rapids breast augmentation. Before and after photos show the small incision that he makes in the armpit area. He prefers this method over others because he believes it gives him optimal results and avoids an unsightly scar on the breast.
For your breast augmentation before and after in Grand Rapids, you deserve an implant that is technologically advanced and can give you the safety of saline along with a beautiful, natural look. You deserve the IDEAL IMPLANT.
